How long does a fibreglass pool resurface take?

How long does a fibreglass resurface last?

A properly applied fibreglass resurface typically lasts 15–20+ years with reasonable care. The key is proper surface preparation  -  that's what determines longevity.

Can you resurface over the existing gelcoat?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, the existing gelcoat needs to be ground back to provide a proper bonding surface. Resurfacing over a failing surface is one of the most common reasons resurfacing jobs fail.

What colours are available for pool resurfacing?

A range of standard pool colours are available  -  from whites and light blues through to darker shades. We can show you colour samples during the quoting process.

Can cracks in a fibreglass pool be repaired?

Yes  -  most cracks can be repaired effectively. The key is identifying whether the crack is structural or cosmetic, and addressing the underlying cause, not just the visible damage.

What causes osmosis blistering?

Accepted Answer

Osmosis occurs when water penetrates the gelcoat and reacts with the resin layers beneath, creating blisters. It's common in older pools and pools where the original gelcoat has deteriorated.

When is a repair enough vs. needing a full resurface?

If the damage is localised and the surrounding surface is in good condition, a repair is often the right option. If the damage is widespread, recurring, or the surface is generally deteriorating, resurfacing is usually the smarter long-term option.

Do you supply and install pool equipment?

Yes  -  we can supply and install pumps, filters, chlorinators, lights and related equipment. We can also help diagnose issues with existing equipment.

Can you help with pool equipment problems?

We can diagnose and fix common equipment issues including flow problems, pressure issues, leaks and electrical faults. If something falls outside our scope, we'll let you know.

What type of waterproofing do you do?

We specialise in fibreglass and resin-based waterproofing  -  particularly around pools, wet areas and specialty applications. We don't do general building waterproofing or tiling-related work.

Can you build custom water features?

Yes  -  we design, build and finish custom fibreglass water features including display creeks, spillways, cascades and decorative elements.

Do you do commercial fibreglass work?

Selected commercial and industrial fibreglass work including tank linings, containment repairs and specialty applications. Our core business is pools, so commercial work is taken on selectively.

What about concrete pool conversions?

We can convert concrete pools to fibreglass. This involves preparing the concrete surface and applying a full fibreglass and gelcoat system over it. It's a bigger job than a standard resurface, so we assess suitability on a case-by-case basis.

We provide obligation-free assessments. For most jobs, we need to see the pool in person to give an accurate quote. Initial advice based on photos is always free.
